Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression are incredibly common. If you're dealing with either of these, please know—you're not alone. They can show up in lots of ways: something that's lasted most of your life, something that kicked in after a major change or experience, seasonal patterns, or sometimes they seem to appear out of nowhere without any obvious cause. However you're experiencing them, there are tools that help.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is probably the most well-known method for mood disorders so if you’ve done therapy before you’ve likely seen CBT in the therapy room. I use CBT some but it is not the only effective method of treatment. I also use EMDR, parts work, somatic approaches, and mindfulness practices. Together, we'll figure out what works best for you.

I like to help people get to the root causes of their depression and sometimes it's helpful to think about anxiety and depression similarly to trauma. The word "trauma" comes from Greek and simply means "wound." We all have emotional wounds. And if we can heal the underlying wound we can more effectively treat the depression and anxiety in a way where it is less likely to re-emerge later on.

I’ve seen many people who feel discouraged from their experiences in therapy. Many therapy styles focus on a logical approach which does offer some healing. It also falls short for many people who seek a deeper level of healing. I have found that logical problems need logical solutions and emotional problems need emotional solutions. I enjoy working with people who have felt stalled in therapy because the tools I use do a good job of helping people find their emotional solutions.

I plan to write more in my blog on this topic, so check that out if you'd like.
